BETWEEN THE LINES
DESIGN BEYOND CONFORMITY AND CHAOS

PRINT DESIGN | ILLUSTRATION | TYPOGRAPHY | PUBLICATION ART DIRECTION

Between Lines is a typographic and conceptual exploration of where functionality meets artistry in design. Drawing inspiration from Bruno Munari’s Design as Art and Brian Collins’ philosophy on spontaneity and imperfection, the project examines how intentional design can transcend utility to become poetic, emotive, and human.

The book challenges the boundaries of conformity and chaos; encouraging readers to question, explore, and rediscover the beauty of design that dares to defy convention.

CONCEPT & OUTCOME

At its core, Between Lines visualizes the dialogue between structure and freedom; the designer’s ongoing negotiation between order and expression.

Typography was treated as a living element: grids provided balance while deliberate irregularities introduced rhythm and warmth. Each composition celebrated imperfection as an essential design principle.

The visual system blends clarity with disruption through bold typographic contrasts, generous white space, and looping hand-drawn illustrations; mirroring the duality of rational design and creative spontaneity.
